  • Graphics:  8/10
  • Intuitiveness:  9/10
  • Content:  Pending.
  • Replay Value:  Pending.

Pros:

  • Very fast load and save time.
  • The new Create-A-Sim is very slick and easy to handle.
  • The tutorials are excellent.
  • Emotions definitely add an interesting new twist to the game.
  • Love way social interactions flow now.  Very slick.
  • Less time spend juggling needs, more time spend having fun.
  • MY SIM IS ADORABLE.

Cons:

  • The fast load time at the start of the game means that there are constant smaller load times throughout the game.
  • Lots have all been separated again, unlike the open world in Sims 3.
  • The interface is a bit childish for my tastes.

The Sims 4: Part 2

Poor, poor Abby.  Finally, she’s a sexy sim, but she’s got no sexy man-sims to snuggle up with.  An impossible situation, for our eternal Natasha.  But surely there must be a way around it?  So, I decided to leave Abby dancing a strange caterpillar dance in the middle of the gym while telling jokes about penguins, and find a solution!

No, seriously.  That was one of her interactions.

Don’t ask me why!  It was penguins or politicians.  Anyway, I popped out to the Map screen to see what I could do, and after a few minutes of whining and prodding at things I discovered another magical thing, called Household Management.  I never could get the hang of juggling households in the previous games, but my goodness it was SO EASY in The Sims 4!  There was a simple list of the pre-made households, and I could click any not currently in play and place them wherever I liked, or make a new one.  Or, better yet, I could open any of those households in Create-A-Sim and edit their clothing and hair to my liking.  Which was fantastic, because there was a young man I liked the look of, with the exception of his bad hair and horrifying fashion sense.

Nothing we can’t fix, though!  You can’t tweak build or facial features on pre-made sims, but you can fix everything else.  And then, finally, Jaquan Granger was ready to make a splash in Abby’s life!  With two simple clicks, he was added as an NPC in her world.  Time to stop dancing like a caterpillar, you weirdo! and go find a cute boy to flirt with.

I placed him as her direct neighbour, of course, then promptly raced home to go get my flirt on.  Only to discover that he’d already left the house to go do NPC things.  Oh.  Blast.  Luckily, Abby was still in a good mood so we decided to take a cruise around her neighbourhood and see what could be seen.  BOY were we excited when we spotted this little baby!

That’s right!  A fat, juicy rock, just ripe for the… digging?  Okay, that’s new.  Whatever!  Collecting was one of my favourite things to do in Sims 3, so I promptly sent her racing over there to dig up her chunk of… …uh…

Should I be afraid for her life now, or is she just going to start headbanging?  I don’t even know!  No time for that now, though; by the time she’d finished digging that up, Jacquin had returned home.  Horray!  Oh, and another loading screen… to cross the street.  Impressive.  But, she made it in the end, and spent a couple of minutes chatting to him before she got hungry and… decided to start doing pushups for some reason.  Well, then.  Logical game is logical.  Just to make things weirder, when she got home, she discovered not one but two strange male sims doing pushups on her porch.  Uh… welcome to the neighbourhood, I guess?

On a more serious note, they’ve now added a timer to food that tells you exactly how long it has left until it spoils.  And if you “Clean Up” a plate that still has food on it, she scrapes the scraps into the trash before she washes the plate.  It’s the little touches that count.  And there are a lot of little touches that make The Sims 4 interesting.  You can now take different types of showers to effect your mood.  A Steamy Shower makes your sim feel flirty.  A Thoughtful Shower makes her feel inspired.  Needs take longer to replenish, but less time to deplete, which makes it feel like you’re spending a lot less time just juggling needs, and more time actually playing.

To summarize, I’m enjoying this game so far.  Will the enjoyment last?  Only time will tell.

I still haven’t figured out what the Interactive USB Plumbob is supposed to do, though.
