Biography

  • “The first task of every author is to evoke emotion.  You may laugh, or you may cry; you may love me, or you may hate me.  As long as I make you feel something, I know that I’m doing my job.”  – V. L. Dreyer

V. L. Dreyer is an international best-selling author from the wild back country of New Zealand. She is best known for her post-apocalyptic series, The Survivors, as well as the Immortelle series under her pen name, Abigail Hawk. Her earlier works include an assortment of graphic novels, short stories, blogs, and works of art, and her preferred genres are science fiction, post-apocalyptic survival, and romance – and sometimes all three at once.

Ms. Dreyer is the unlikely miracle offspring of a science fiction geek who dreamed of teaching, and a biker with a heart of gold and a fascination for making things. She penned her first novel at the age of 14, and started her first business at the age of twenty. From 2003 to 2011, she ran the publishing house Blue Scar Productions with a friend and business partner, then went on to produce numerous literary and artistic works under her personal brand, Cheeky Kea. In October 2017, Ms. Dreyer founded the Cheeky Kea Charitable Trust, a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to helping those who have limited options due to age, disability, or socio-economic disadvantage explore the opportunities of self-employment. She also runs CK Printworks, the publishing arm of the entity, and CK Swagworks, a small retail store to fund their charitable endeavours.

Ms Dreyer suffers from a rare medical condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Hypermobility Variant), which has left her with a hearing impairment and a number of other issues. In her free time, she is an avid gamer, reader, and enjoys learning new and sometimes completely random things.
